WARREN (WWJ) – The Andiamo Celebrity Showroom is gearing up for a big weekend of comedy and music.
Friday night, international comedian Basile will take the stage, while The Guess Who will play the hits on Saturday night.
The Guess Who has been rocking the free world since 1962 and original founding member and drummer Garry Peterson still touring to this day after more than six decades.
He and the band played at Royal Oak's Arts, Beats & Eats festival last summer and ahead of a return performance, he spoke with WWJ's Erin Vee about his legendary career, his view of how to grow as a musician, and even got to the bottom of a decades old rumor.
The Guess Who played a private party at the White House during President Richard Nixon's presidency, and Peterson confirmed in this interview that the band was indeed asked not to play their biggest hit, "American Woman," as it was viewed by as a song protesting the Vietnam War.
"We said, 'fine, we're here to entertain people. If you don't want us to play our No. 1 hit record, that's your choice,'" Peterson said.
