DETROIT (WWJ) – Most people shrug off the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. It’s a week notorious for low production and high procrastination.
But not for those in Detroit who celebrate Sandwich Week — described by its founder as “the perfect holiday.”
“It’s the week sandwiched between two holidays where you celebrate it by eating food and hanging out with friends,” Carlos Parisi said.
On a special weekend edition of the Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark caught up with him to learn how Sandwich Week got its start and how it’s grown into a foodie’s dream — and a way to support small businesses across the city.
Sandwich Week begins the day after Christmas and runs through Saturday, with a special double feature on Friday. Here’s a look at the schedule
Dec. 26: 1 p.m. at Hygrade Deli
Dec. 27: Noon-3 p.m. at Mudgie’s Deli
Dec. 28: Noon at Ladder 4 Wine Bar
Dec. 29: Noon at Gonella’s & 6 p.m. at Rocco’s Italian Deli
Dec. 30: Noon at Ernie’s Market in Oak Park
