EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - Thieves made a mess of an Eastpointe pharmacy on Thursday morning after they ripped the back door completely off its hinges to get inside.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reported live from the scene at Kelly Pharmacy along Eight Mile Road near Kelly Road in Eastpointe where police are working to track down robbers who broke into the business just before 6 a.m.

"It looks like it was a big operation," Langton said. "They somehow got a car and then it looks like they yanked the roll-up back door literally off its hinges and dumped it on the ground."

According to Langton, the criminals also managed to disable a video surveillance system.

While it is unclear what the thieves took, Langton said they were more than likely looking for prescription drugs, like oxycontin.

There was also another report that the criminals may have gained access to the pharmacy's vault by going through the ceiling, but that information remains unconfirmed with police this hour.

The suspects did manage to get away before police arrived at the scene. So far, authorities have not released any information about who they are looking for.

The investigation is ongoing.
