(WWJ) Could you still be owed some money by a former employer?
WWJ Business Editor Murray Feldman reports there is $2.3 million that Michigan workers should have received, but didn't for one reason or another.
"The Department of Labor's wage and hour division tells me there are nearly 6,000 people in Michigan who deserve to get paid," Feldman said.
The problem is that many of these workers can't be located.
"Maybe they moved, maybe they're deceased and the money should be going to relatives. Maybe they had a name change," Feldman said.
The clock is ticking, however.
The Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division can only hold this money for three years as it attempts to find people who deserve to get it.
If you think a former employer owes you back wages, you can check the government's website.
In an effort to reach out to more workers and help them claim the money they are owed, the agency has developed an online search tool, Workers Owed Wages (WOW) that allows workers to enter information to find out if we are holding back wages on their behalf. The tool provides a quick and easy way for employees to find out if they are owed money and receive it.
