(WWJ) — Metro Detroit has seen a pretty mild winter thus far, with above average temperatures and not a ton of snow.

While we all know there’s a possibility Michigan could still see a snowstorm at any point over the next couple months, the area is bracing for the first spring-like storms of the season this week.

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms and gusty winds are possible Tuesday and Wednesday as a strong low pressure system and cold front track across southeast Michigan.

Stronger, isolated storms are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the NWS.

The NWS says a “marginal risk for severe weather exists, mainly for thunderstorm potential Tuesday night through Wednesday morning along and ahead of the cold front.”

The system could bring wind gusts of 40 mph or more, along with lightning and heavy rain. Northwest gusts of 30-40 mph are expected to follow the cold front on Wednesday.

After a chilly Saturday in Metro Detroit, AccuWeather is calling for high temperatures to reach 50 on Monday before hitting 63 on Tuesday and 57 Wednesday.

But after the cold front makes its way across the area, highs will dip back below 40 on Thursday, according to AccuWeather.
