Tips wanted in case of man using motorized wheelchair who was hit and killed by driver of Jaguar XF in Southfield

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- A family is seeking answers in a still unsolved hit-and-run that took the life of a vibrant young man on a 4th of July morning in Metro Detroit.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is reaching out to the public for tips, and offering a hefty cash reward, with no arrests in the case now 2 1/2 years since Tarrie Daniel's tragic death in Southfield.

According to investigators, the 28-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver at around 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 4, 2021.

As Daniel was traveling northwest on Martha Washington Drive at George Washington Drive, near 10 Mile Road, in his motorized wheelchair when he was hit by a car and dragged approximately 220 feet. The driver of car then fled the scene.

Daniel was found lying in the street and was pronoucned dead at the scene.

The suspect's vehicle is a 2009-2011 Jaguar XF, that would likely have significant damage to the front end. The color of the car is unknown, and there is no description of the wanted driver.

Crime Stoppers says Daniel was born with cerebral palsy, was a graduate of Southfield High School and represented his middle school in the Special Olympics.

He was known for volunteering his time, helping neighbors get their trash containers to and from curbside on trash day, and "never showed signs of giving up on life," according to his friends and family.

Crime Sroppers added, in a news release, "He was a very active, independent individual who enjoyed hanging out with friends who enjoyed having him around."

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $7,500 for information that leads to the arrest of the drivers responsible for Daniel's death.
