(WWJ) A drug bust in Central Michigan turned up an iconic firearm.

According to Michigan State Police, the raid happened in northern Isabella County, where troopers with the MSP Sixth District found over 56 grams of methamphetamine and several long guns, including a "Tommy gun."

Two suspects were arrested on felony warrants for delivery of crystal meth, and a third person was arrested on an unrelated warrant, police said.

"Tommy gun" is the popular name for the Thompson submachine gun, an iconic firearm invented by John T. Thompson.

The automatic Tommy gun was designed for trench warfare in World War !, and was also used by troops in World War II.

While intended for war, the weapon became well-known as it played an infamous role in American crime history — used both by gangsters and law enforcement during the Prohibition era.

Since it's the holiday season, it's worth noting that a Tommy gun famously appears in the film "Home Alone," used by the character "Johnny" in the fictional movie-within-a-movie "Angels with Filthy Souls."

All of the weapons found were seized by police.

MSP shared the information on Dec. 22, but didn't say when the raid took place.

The operation was conducted by detectives with MSP-MINT, a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement task force serving Isabella and Clare counties.

To report drug activity in these areas, the public can call the MINT tip line: 989-779-9697.
