TROY (WWJ) -- A Detroit woman is facing a drunken driving charge after getting a flat tire and calling for a tow in Oakland County.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Aug. 27, Troy Police said officers responded to the area of W. Maple Rd. and Crooks to check on a driver.

Dispatch said a tow truck driver called for a welfare check after getting a call from a woman requesting a tow "who sounded intoxicated," according to the police report.

Officers arrived to find a 2020 Chevy Equinox with a blown-out front passenger-side tire.

While speaking with the driver, a 39-year-old woman from Detroit, officers said she appeared confused, her speech was slurred, and she smelled like booze.

After failing a field sobriety test, police said the driver took a preliminary breath test with a result of .267% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) — which is more than three times the legal limit to drive in Michigan.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up facility, where a Chemical Breath Test showed results of 234% and .239%, police said.

The driver was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). Her name was not released.
