(WWJ) - A pair of freeway closures involving semi trucks in Washtenaw and Monroe County are causing massive headaches for drivers in Metro Detroit.
WWJ traffic reporter KT said drivers are stuck in an almost five-mile-long backup on northbound I-75 in Rockwood just after South Huron River due to a semi crash.
"It's laying on its side!" KT said of the big rig -- and it doesn't appear anyone is going anywhere soon. "They haven't even begun to to try and pump it up and get it out of there."
The backup stretches all the way to I-275, KT reported, so drivers will want to exit at I-275. If you miss the exit, KT warned the area could take up to an hour and a half to get through.
The second closure is on westbound I-94 in Ann Arbor at Jackson Ave. Drivers are being forced off at Jackson Ave. and drivers are backed all the way up before Ann Arbor/Saline Road.
"And with this one, it's a semi laying horizontal across both lanes and what was on this trailer is all over the road."
Michigan State Police said in a 10 a.m. update to social media that a car cut off the semi truck, which was hauling steel coils. The trailer separated from the truck and hit the bridge on Wagner Road as the semi cab overturned.
Miraculously, MSP said the drivers of both vehicles sustained non life-threatening injuries and were transported to the University of Michigan hospital for treatment.
In either traffic situation, drivers are urged to seek alternative routes or plan to leave earlier for their destinations.
"These are going to be awhile," KT added.
