ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- A tentative trial date has been set for the teenager accused of carrying out a deadly shooting rampage at Oxford High School.
Ethan Crumbley, 15, made a brief, virtual court appearance Thursday morning before Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwame Rowe, who set a trial date of September 6, 2022.
Rowe said the date could change, but he wanted to set one to "move this case forward."
Also decided during the hearing: Crumbley will remain held in the adult jail. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwame Rowe ruled that the teen would not be moved to juvenile detention at Oakland County Children's Village.
"The court does not see any reason to change its prior ruling as it relates to the defendant's placement at the Oakland County Jail," Rowe said, touching only briefly on the issue that, under Michigan law, must be revisited every 30 days.
Crumbley is accused of opening fire on fellow students in a hallway at Oxford High School in Oxford Twp. on November 30 of last year. Four students were killed and several more students and teacher were wounded.
A prosecutor disclosed that the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry has completed a report about the teen's mental health status at the time of the shooting, and whether he could be held criminally responsible.
No information about the report was released.
Defense lawyers indicated in January that they would pursue an insanity defense for the teen, who complained in journals presented in court that he suffered from mental health issues, which his parents allegedly ignored.
Crumble is charged as an adult with terrorism and four counts of first degree murder. He is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on May 19.
