TROY (WWJ) -- A 63-year-old man with two prior drunken driving convictions is facing a third charge following his arrest last week in Troy, according to police.

Troy Police said the suspect, identified as a Troy resident, was taken into custody last Tuesday evening after calls came in about a vehicle driving through the backyards of several homes.

Officers arrived on the scene in a neighborhood near Coolidge and Big Beaver Rd., and spoke with a witness who said the driver used a driveway to enter the backyard area of homes 1500 block of Hamlet, and driving over the lawns causing minor damage to the grass, a tree, and an underground downspout pipe.

Officers found the suspect vehicle, now parked on the side of the road, with the driver standing beside it.

When questioning the driver, officers said the man had a hard time keeping his balance, his speed was slurred and he smelled strongly like booze.

Police said the man failed some field sobriety tests and then took a breathalyzer, which showed his BAC was .20%, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive under Michigan law.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up where he was read his Chemical Test rights and refused to take a breath test, police said. Officers got a search warrant, and man's blood was drawn by medical personnel.

Police said the driver has since been charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 3rd Offense, and Driving While License Suspended, Revoked, Denied 2nd Offense. His name was not immediately released.
