TROY (WWJ) -- A Troy man was arrested last Friday after police say he assaulted a random person who was just walking down the street.

At around 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, Troy Police responded to the 3500 block of Crooks Rd. on a report about a man who was attacked while walking his dog.

The victim told officers the suspect, whom he did not know, came up to him, yelled in his face, punched the top of his head and then ripped his shirt — all without provocation.

Officers found the 27-year-old suspect in the area of Crooks and Wattles and he was taken into custody, police said.

Police said the suspect suspect told officers he'd just quit his job and got into an argument with his family, so he walked up to the first person he saw and assaulted them.

The suspect was arrested, taken to the Troy Police lock-up, and cited for Assault and Battery. He was also petitioned for a mental health evaluation. police said.

The suspect's name was not released.
