TROY (WWJ) -- A 23-year-old Troy man has been arrested in connection with the accidental shooting of a child one week ago.
Troy Police said Zanious Murphy is charged with Violation of Firearm Safe Storage Causing Serious Injury to a Minor.
Troy officers responded to a home on Crooks Road at around 4:15 p.m. last Friday to find a 9 year-old boy bleeding from his head.
It's alleged that the child — who was at home with his mother at the time — picked up the gun, and was accidentally shot. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery.
Murphy appeared in 52-4 District Court for an arraignment on June 6, and was ordered held on a $30,000 bond, no 10%.
Police said Murphy is not related to the child, but both of them lived in the home.
The child remains hospitalized in critical condition.
