TROY (WWJ) – A Dearborn Heights man with multiple prior drunk driving offenses has been charged again after police found him outside his car after other drivers reported he was asleep at the wheel in Troy.

Troy police officers were called to the area of John R and 14 Mile around 9:45 p.m. on Feb. 19 because a red Genesis G70 was blocking traffic and passersby believed the driver was sleeping.

When officers showed up, they found the driver standing outside the car. The 42-year-old told police he had run out of gas.

The man told police he was on his way home from a bar but he didn't know where he currently was or what city he was in.

Officers asked the man to perform several sobriety evaluations, but he refused to complete most of them, according to police. After blowing a .21% BAC on a preliminary breath test, the man was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up, where he refused to take a breath test. Authorities then got a warrant to draw his blood. Results of that test were not released.

The driver has been charged with his third offense of operating while intoxicated and second offense of driving with a suspended license.

Authorities have not released the driver's name or any information about his next court date.
