TROY (WWJ) – A Detroit man is awaiting charges after he was allegedly caught driving drunk with open alcohol containers and guns in his car last week in Troy.
Troy police were called to the area of Crooks Road and I-75 around 4 p.m. on July 27 after getting reports that a driver in a Dodge Challenger was "all over the roadway" and unable to maintain their lane.
Officers saw the Challenger nearly run multiple other vehicles off the road.
Once officers pulled the driver over, they noticed the 51-year-old man had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes. When he was asked to get out of the car, officers smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed he had "urinated and defecated on himself."
After failing several field sobriety tests and refusing to take a preliminary breath test, the driver was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up.
When officers searched the Challenger they found four loaded guns in the trunk, an unloaded shotgun in the rear seat and additional ammo in the trunk and passenger compartments.
They also found an empty beer bottle on the back floorboard and multiple empty bottles of Listerine mouthwash.
Officials said a valid CPL was found in the car.
The driver again refused to take a breath test once in custody, so authorities conducted a blood draw to determine his BAC. Officials said the case was turned over to the Troy Detective Bureau to determine appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned.
The driver's name was not released.
