DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police are investigating an apparent smash-and-grab robbery Tuesday morning at a marijuana grow operation on Detroit's east side.
Reporting from the scene at Moran and Beaconsfield, where a white pickup truck drove right into storefront in a strip mall, next door to a tax service and a dollar store, sometime around 2 a.m.
Langton said a lot of damage was done to the building, housing what's suspected to be an illegal marijuana growing business.
When the truck destroyed the storefront, marijuana plants and grow lights were exposed.
"Very tall plants in there and a lot of equipment to grow pot," Langdon reported, sharing video of the mess the truck left behind. "It looked like the place where the marijuana grow operation was for lease; no indication that it was legit."
Later in the morning, police had left the scene and repairs the building were underway.
It's not clear what might have been stolen.
Also Tuesday morning — not too far away from this scene, at Jefferson Ave. and Lakeview — there was another smash-and-grab at a clothing store. Langton said it's not yet clear whether or not the two incidents are related, but both of them did involve a suspect or suspects in a white pickup truck.
There have been no arrests as the investigation continues.
