DETROIT (WWJ) A crash, following a police chase on Detroit's northwest side, leaves an innocent driver in critical condition.

Southfield police say officers spotted a Dodge Challenger shortly after it was reported stolen around 3 a.m. Friday morning.  Officers tried to make a traffic stop near Eight Mile and Northland Drive, but the suspect sped away.

Southfield police say the chase ended shortly after the suspect drove into Detroit on Lahser Road, but the suspect crashed into another car at Lahser and Grand River.

The 19-year old suspect from Warren tried to run away, but was caught.

A canvass of the area revealed numerous live 9mm rounds on the ground near the Challenger and a Glock 19 with an extended magazine inserted in the gun. Also, inside of the vehicle was an Auto Propad commonly used to steal cars, according to Southfield police.

Charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, Fleeing and Eluding, Use of a Device to Steal a Motor Vehicle, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon will be considered by the Oakland County Prosecutor's office.

Police continue their investigation.
