MUNISING, MICH. (WWJ) Members of the U.S. Coast Guard are being hailed heroes for rescuing five people from a burning boat at the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula.

According to a Facebook post on the U.S. Coast Guard Station Marquette page, one of their "vigilant lookouts" saw the fire during a routine patrol of the lakeshore in Munising Saturday evening.

“Taking quick action, our crews swiftly responded to the distress,” the U.S. Coast Guard said in the post. “As the flames grew, our crew transferred over all passengers onboard the distressed vessel to our 29’ RBS-II.”

All of the passengers returned to the local marina without injuries. The U.S. Coast Guard also thanked the National Park Service for their "quick response and aid" on the rescue efforts.

Up to 250 gallons of diesel were on board the 30-foot boat, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The National Park and the U.S. Coast Guard are monitoring that area of Lake Superior for signs of pollution as a result of the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
