(WWJ) -- Help is on the way for victims of the recent flooding that has impacted thousands of people in the metro Detroit area.
The United Way of Southeast Michigan is hoping to raise $1 million for flood relief through the organization’s new crisis and recovery fund.
The first $250,000 will be matched dollar for dollar through contributions from donors, including philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
Money raised by United Way will be used to aid flood victims who need help with shelter, food, transportation, and cleanup following the torrential storms that hit southeastern Michigan late last month.
Michiganders in need of immediate help can call 2-1-1.
