ANN ARBOR (WWJ) — A University of Michigan student is recovering after being hit by a car on campus Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. along University Avenue near Thayer Street, near the Thayer Academic Building, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Ann Arbor and University of Michigan police officers, along with Ann Arbor fire and EMS crews responded to the scene, where a 24-year-old had been hit at a mid-block crosswalk.

The driver, a 72-year-old Ypsilanti woman, was headed west on N. University at the time of the crash.

The student, whose name has not been released, was unconscious when first responders arrived and he was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable conditions.

The driver stopped at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Authorities said speeding or reckless driving do not appear to be a factor. Investigators are still looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
