U.S. Coast Guard continues search for missing 61-year-old fisherman on Lake Michigan

GRAND HAVEN (WWJ) - Efforts to find a missing boater on Lake Michigan continues on Wednesday morning after family members reported him missing after a day of fishing in waters off Holland.

The U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes said they were contacted by the family of 61-year-old David Split around 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, after he failed to return home from a fishing trip.

He was last seen leaving Spring Lake in a 29-foot Blue Sea Sundancer, named A & A. The Coast Guard released images of Split's boat as pictured below:

According to officials, the 61-year-old boater is known to fish near the mouth of the Grand River and slightly offshore. His last reported location was six miles off Holland.

USCG crews are searching the area by air and water at this time with help from Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and the Muskegon Police Department.
