WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - A raging fire erupted at a multi-million dollar home in Oakland County on Tuesday morning, sending the homeowner to the hospital with severe burns, authorities said.

WWJ's Charlie Langton was live at the scene at 6 a.m. on Oct. 24 where the fire is out, but leaves behind a charred 7,000 square foot home on Commerce Road nestled between Cass Lake and Orchard Lake.

"It says it's worth about $4 million or so, but this morning, it is a total loss because of a fire," Langton said.

According to fire officials, the blaze broke out around 1:30 a.m. First responders and fire personnel from all six West Bloomfield fire stations were called out to the scene.

Commerce Road between Indian Trail and Three Lakes Lane were closed most of the night, but reopened shortly before 6:45 a.m.

Langton said five people were inside when the home went up in flames. Four people made it out safely while the homeowner sustained severe burns to their hand and was hospitalized.

"Officials say that the fire may have started in the kitchen, but there's a lot of fire personnel here from a number of different agencies and they're going to be doing a very thorough investigation," Langton said.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.

Fire crews are still active at the scene. Drivers are urged to use alternative routes.
