(WWJ) -- Entrepreneurs on Facebook Marketplace are cashing in by providing something that virtually everyone wants: a spot at the front of the line at Secretary of State.
If users go onto the Marketplace section of the popular social media platform and search “Secretary of State Appointments,” they’ll find multiple listings of reservations that can be purchased for anywhere between $20-$25.
However, state officials are warning against the practice, and saying it could result in losing your appointment and your money.
"We are aware of it and you should not buy one because when we find out that happens we cancel the appointment," Secretary of State spokesperson Tracy Wimmer told Fox2Detroit. "Please don’t spend your money in that way."
The Secretary of State begins releasing reservations online every day at 8:00 a.m., and Wimmer says people may need to try two or three times before obtaining a next day appointment.
In response, Wimmer said that the SOS is planning to tack on an additional 35,000 appointments each month and increase the number of employees at call centers to better serve those with questions.
