
VASSAR TWP. (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Tuscola County's Vassar Twp., Monday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, Vassar Police were responding to a 911 call about a crash near 5959 Scotch Rd. in Vassar, which is east of Frankenmuth in the Thumb area.
On the scene, the officer found a crashed vehicle, with one person inside.
When the officer approached and spoke with the driver, identified as a 30-year-old Vassar man, police said he failed to comply with the officer's commands and pulled out a gun, allegedly threatening the officer.
That's when police said the officer shot the man, causing serious injuries.
The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment. The officer was not injured.
On Tuesday, police said the an investigation into the shooting by the MSP Third District Special Investigation Section was still active and ongoing.
Once the investigation is complete, the full report will be forwarded to the Tuscola County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is the Vassar Police Department's policy. His name was not released.
