OAK PARK (WWJ) A veteran with a disability was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Oak Park, authorities said.
Oak Park Public Safety officials said the crash happened on Saturday, November 22, around 5:20 a.m. in the area of Nine Mile and Harding, near Greenfield.
Authorities told WWJ officers responded to the area for reports of a man down in the roadway.
According to public safety officials; officers arrived on scene and found a 71-year-old veteran in a wheelchair who had been struck by a car. Public safety officers attempted life-saving measures. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests the veteran was in the roadway when a sedan traveling eastbound struck him—and kept driving.
Public safety officials describe the car as a “dark-colored sedan, likely a Kia or Hyundai.” Authorities continue to search for it.
The victim’s name was not released.
