(WWJ) -- The victim who died in the mass shooting in Texas over the weekend was from metro Detroit.
Douglas Kantor was out with friends in the early hours of Saturday morning in Austin when two men opened fire on a crowd. Of the 14 who were hit, Kantor was the only victim to die from his injuries.
The 25-year-old, originally from New York, had been living in Michigan after attending Michigan State University, and later receiving a master's degree from the University of Michigan.
Kantor was working for Ford Motor Company as a product manager in the IT department. He had recently bought a house in Oak Park and was looking forward to marrying his high school sweetheart and starting a family.
In a statement on the Douglas Kantor memorial page, his brother wrote that he "motivated everyone he came in contact with."
"He was loved by all who knew him and had an infectious smile that would light up any room," he wrote. "He was loved by his family, friends and everyone who met him. This senseless tragedy has put an end to all his dreams."
A memorial fund has been set up for Kantor and the 13 other victims of the shooting.
