Where's an elephant heart?

Off-duty officer Mana Srivate didn't know either -- but that didn't stop him when he stumbled onto a scene where a Mama elephant was screaming in distress and her baby was hurt.

Officials said the calf, estimated at a month old, had been hit by a motorcycle on a dark road in the eastern province of Chanthaburi on Saturday.

While others treated the motorcyclist, Mana figured out how to give two-handed compressions to the small elephant, as it lay on its side, struggling.

"I assumed where an elephant heart would be located based on human theory and a video clip I saw online," the officer told local media.

And it worked!

By the time he was done, the elephant was breathing on his own and able to stand. He or she was reunited with Mama.

Mana, who has been a rescue worker for 26 years, told Reuters: ‘It’s my instinct to save lives, but I was worried the whole time because I can hear the mother and other elephants calling for the baby."

He added: "When the baby elephant starting to move, I almost cried."
