ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) — A vigil will be held Sunday night for the victims of the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad shooting that left nine people injured over the weekend.
The community is invited to support the victims and their families at a 5 p.m. prayer vigil at Woodside Bible Church in Troy, located at 6600 Rochester Road. The vigil will be held in The Garage room.
Among the victims of the mass shooting are three members of the same family: a 4-year-old boy, an 8-year-old boy, and their 39-year-old mother. The woman and older boy were listed in critical condition Saturday night.
During a Sunday press conference authorities did not have an update on their conditions, but did say all were still alive.
Officials said Sunday three victims underwent operations Saturday night, but did not specify which victims.
A married couple were also among the victims. A GoFundMe page set up to help them with unexpected medical bills says the mother and father had just arrived at the splash pad and bought ice cream for their children, ages 2 and 7 months, when gunfire erupted.
"In an effort to save their children, they each grabbed a child to protect them," the GoFundMe page said. In total, the married couple was shot seven times.
Bouchard said the sheriff's office "has not independently confirmed the authenticity of any charity or Go Fund Me effort collecting donations to support the nine victims of Saturday's shooting."
The other victims are all over the age of 30, with the oldest being a 78-year-old man, police officials said Saturday night. All were listed in stable condition.
Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett said at Sunday's press conference the wife of a city employee was among those who were shot at the splash pad. She was there with a group of 14 friends and family members.
Barnett said a meal train to help the victims and their families has been organized in a Facebook group dedicated to the Brooklands neighborhood.
The shooter, identified by police as 42-year-old Michael William Nash of Shelby Township, was found dead in a mobile home where he lived with his mother. Authorities believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Saturday night Nash had no known criminal history. Authorities believe he was dealing with mental health challenges, but no other details have been release.
Investigators are still looking into a motive behind the shooting.
