DETROIT (WWJ) -- Believe it or not, it's going to be hot in Metro Detroit on Friday. But there could be some storms to contend with, too — so plan accordingly.
AccuWeather says a significant warmup is in store for Southeast Michigan to kick off the weekend, as temperatures will rise from the lower 50s to a high of 79 degrees in Detroit. "A few spots count touch 80 tomorrow afternoon," said AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick.
Metro Detroiters can expect shower in spots early in the morning, then breezy and pleasant spring day with times of clouds and sun.
Friday evening, however, things may take a turn with a popup storm or two.
"As we head into tomorrow night, that looks like the greatest risk for thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and hail," Feerick said, speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950 on Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold front moving in from the Midwest is expected to support isolated strong thunderstorms, with a risk for large hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph. However, NWS said there is now only a "slight risk" of severe storms in Southeast Michigan, most likely starting at 10 p.m. or later on Friday.
Feerick said a spin-up tornado is also not out of the question.
On Saturday, some showers could hang around for the morning, but Feerick said it should dry out for the afternoon, with a high of 65 degrees.
It'll be cooler in Metro Detroit on Easter Sunday, with more clouds, maybe a shower, and a high of around 52.
