TAYLOR (WWJ) -- A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 22-year-old Wayne County man found guilty of assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Avion Sanders was out on bond following an incident in 2020, but he failed to show up for sentencing at the Wayne County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

According to officials, last year on Oct. 21, police responded to the home Sanders shared with his girlfriend, in the 15000 block of Court Village, at approximately 1:48 a.m. on reports of a domestic violence dispute.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office allege that an argument between the couple escalated into a physical altercation, in which they both fell down a flight of stairs and then Sanders pushed his girlfriend toward the front door.

Authorities said when she exited the house and ran down the street, Sanders allegedly pulled out a weapon and fired six or seven shots at her before barricading himself in the residence with their 1-year-old daughter.

Sanders eventually surrendered.

He was found guilty on Sept. 16 of last year.
