Extra police patrols will happen in the city of Warren, the mayor announced, starting today and running through the end of the month.
This follows a spate of violence, including an incident where an alleged drug dealer shot a woman and 6-year-old boy to death.
Mayor Jim Fouts announced the new community policing effort after complaints about people speeding around neighborhood streets, plus reports about a larger-than-usual number of abandoned cars.
The mayor says visibility will be high and the focus will be on stopping speeders, especially since trick-or-treaters are expected to be out and about later this month.
Fouts acknowledged the effort will require overtime, and that he has authorized payment.
