WARREN (WWJ) — Warren police officials on Monday released more details on the officer-involved shooting that left an 18-year-old dead.

Around 1:30 p.m. Friday Warren police officers were called to a home on Garbor Street, near Ryan and 11 Mile, after getting a 911 call for a domestic disturbance.

The 911 call, released by police Monday, was made by the suspect's brother. He told the dispatcher his brother was "going crazy," noting he had not slept in four days.

"He's assaulting everybody. We tried to help him, but nothing's working and now he's hitting my sister, my brother, my dad and my mom," the caller said.

When officers showed up they knocked on the front door several times, but no one answered. Body-worn camera footage shows the garage door opening a short time later.

As officers entered the garage, shouting is heard in the background. As an interior door begins to open one officer is heard yelling "oh s**t, gun!"

As the officers ran out of the garage and sought cover behind bushes along the sidewalk, the teen followed them, armed with a handgun. As he rounded the corner, he pointed the gun at officers, who opened fire.

Two officers fired a total of 11 shots, hitting the teen three times, police officials said.

Officers put the suspect in handcuffs and immediately began rendering aid while others checked inside the house. No other family members were injured.

Warren police officials said the teen lost a pulse multiple times. Though CPR was able to revive him, he eventually succumbed to his injuries after the Warren Fire Department took him to the hospital.

"The department acknowledges the seriousness of all use-of-force incidents. To ensure compliance with law and policy, this incident will undergo a comprehensive internal review which will examine all aspects of the incident," said a press release from the Warren Police Department.

The four officers involved in Friday's incident have been placed on paid administrative leave. Their status will be determined after an investigation is conducted.

Acting Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton said at a Monday press conference the gun was purchased legally by the teen and his family didn't even know he had it.

Officials said Monday police have been in contact with the teen's family, who is encouraging the public to keep a close eye on their children because they were unaware he had the weapon.
