WARREN (WWJ) -- Police have released more information about the case of two women found dead after a double shooting in Warren Wednesday morning.

For most of the day, there was a heavy police presence at scene on Joanne Smith Drive, in the area of Mound Rd. and Frazho, while officers were investigating.

According to police, the adult daughter of the 73-year-old woman who lived in the home arrived at around 10:40 a.m. and found her mother dead, along with her mom's friend, a 75-year-old Fraser woman.

Police arrived on the scene and found that both women had died of gunshot wounds. One of them had a single gunshot wound to the chest, while the other suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

No one else was in the house, police said, and there were no signs of forced entry, a break-in, or robbery. The handgun used in the incident was recovered at the scene.

Police said in a statement that, based on the evidence, this appears to have been a suicide pact.

"Investigators and evidence technicians located two handwritten notes at the scene, suggesting this may have been a mutually agreed-upon suicide pact. Further investigation revealed the handgun appeared new, and both deceased females were present during its legal purchase the day prior to the incident. Additional evidence consistent with a pre-planned suicide was found at the deceased's Fraser residence," police stated.

No names were released.

Police said they do not believe that anyone else was involved, adding that there is no danger to the public.

However, the investigation is ongoing.

The Warren PD encourages anyone feeling distressed or having suicidal thoughts to contact their local police department or the Suicide Hotline at 988 or via text at 741-741. The hotline is available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
