Washtenaw County teen in custody after allegedly shooting at car in KFC drive-thru, fleeing inside

PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) – A teen is in custody after allegedly firing shots at a car in a KFC drive-thru over the weekend in Washtenaw County.

The shooting happened around 6:15 p.m. Saturday when Pittsfield Township police officers were called to the fast food restaurant on Washtenaw Avenue near Carpenter Road after getting calls of shots fired.

Witnesses told police they heard 4-5 shots in the area. One witness said they saw the suspect shoot at a white car in the drive-thru before running into the KFC.

The white car was seen driving away with a flat tire.

A 16-year-old from Ypsilanti Township was taken into custody inside the restaurant. He is being held at the Washtenaw County Juvenile Detention Center, pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

While authorities believe the suspect and victim knew each other, it is not clear what sparked the alleged shooting.

Police do not believe anyone was injured in the shooting.
