YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - An apartment fire in Ypsilanti Township damaged one unit, but authorities say it was water damage that displaced over a dozen people late Monday evening.
The Ypsilanti Township Fire Department told WWJ that the fire broke out at the Oakridge Apartments on Holmes Road shortly before 10 p.m. on Nov. 27.
Crews dispatched to the area were able to contain the blaze to one second floor unit of the eight unit building, but the department said the affected unit flooded a room below it.
Other utilities were damaged and knocked out service to the rest of the building, forcing a dozen people from their homes.
The building is currently closed to resident with no word on when people could return.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire department said so far, the incident doesn't appear to be suspicious.
