(WWJ) - A Waterford woman had to speak with an official several times before she believed she had won more than half a million dollars in the Monthly Jackpot Progressive prize from the Michigan Lottery last week.
"I thought it was a joke," Shannon Molina, 47, said when she got the call that she had won the the Monthly Jackpot Progressive to the tune of $559,200. "I talked to the woman from the Lottery three times before I started to believe it was real. The last time I spoke to her, she setup my appointment to come claim the prize in Lansing and that's when it hit me that it must be real."
Molina was selected in a random drawing on July 14. According to the Michigan Lottery, she had earned entry into the giveaway by playing eligible Monthly Jackpot games online.
The 47-year-old said she plans to pay off bills, purchase a new home and put the rest into savings.
"Life hasn't always been easy. Winning means we can be debt free and get a fresh start in a new home. It's such a blessing," Molina said.
According to the Michigan Lottery, the Monthly Jackpot Progressive game began in April 2022. Since its launch, players have won more than $3.7 million in Monthly Jackpot Progressive prizes.
"Select online instant games include a second chance progressive jackpot drawing. Part of every purchase of the games funds one progressive jackpot prize which is awarded in a second chance drawing each month," officials for the lottery explained. "Players earn one entry for every $0.50 wagered playing the eligible games. After the entry period has closed, a random drawing takes place with one jackpot winner being selected from all entries for that month."

Any entries for the Monthly Jackpot Progressive are only good for the entry period in which they were earned. At the beginning of each month, a new drawing period starts and the progressive jackpot is reset to $5,000.
The next drawing is scheduled for Aug. 9.
