(WWJ) – Things could get dicey on Lake Huron this weekend, with waves as tall as 14 feet possible on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Watch for central and southern Lake Huron, along with all nearshore zones on the lake. The Gale Watch will be in effect from 4 a.m. Saturday until midnight for the Inner and Outer Saginaw Bay.

The Watch will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday for all nearshore areas.

The NWS says northeast winds of 25-30 knots are expected, with gusts around 35 knots, or roughly 40 mph.

Those winds will likely produce waves of 7-10 feet, with max wave heights of 11-14 feet, according to the NWS.

During a Gale Watch, the NWS says people in the area should seek shelter in a sturdy building and stay tuned to the local news for updates.

If you’re caught driving during the high winds, the NWS says you should take shelter in your car if you’re not able to get inside. It’s best to drive to a location where the car is less likely to be hit by falling trees or power lines.

Meanwhile, closer to Detroit this weekend, temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-50s with winds reaching upwards of 20 mph on Saturday.
