(WWJ) - The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office filed an Emergency Bond Motion Friday morning in a case involving a teen who fired a handgun at deputies during a high speed chase in Detroit.
"The current bond is insufficient and inadequate to protect the community," Prosecutor Kym Worthy fired back in a press release after learning Alex Lamont Hailey, 18, was given a $100,000 personal bond and ordered to wear a GPS tethering device by Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath.
Hailey was charged on Thursday with two counts of assault with intent to commit murder, two counts of felonious assault, third-degree fleeing and eluding and four counts of felony firearm in connection with an incident where the teen allegedly fired at two Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies during a traffic stop om the city's northeast side.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy immediately raised concerns over the decision to allow Hailey out of jail due to the severity of his charges.
“In this case we feel strongly that the magistrate abused her discretion in issuing a personal bond due to the serious nature of the allegations that the defendant fled from and fired multiple shots at the police," said Worthy.
Hailey was observed driving erratically around 1 p.m. on Jan. 18 by deputies who tried to pull Hailey over -- the teen allegedly sped off with the police in pursuit. Police reported Hailey stopped his vehicle during the chase and produced a handgun, firing at the officers from the driver's side window.
The teen took off again -- cutting off a firetruck responding to another emergency -- and was eventually apprehended by deputies with assistance from Detroit police officers.

Worthy's emergency bond motion is set for Monday, Jan. 24 at 9:00 a.m at the 36th District Court.
Hailey will remain in jail over the weekend until the hearing.
