VAN BUREN TWP. (WWJ) -- A 55-year-old Wayne County man is facing multiple felony charges after a four-hour standoff with police earlier this week.

Carl Londa Phelps III, 55, of Van Buren Township, was arraigned in 34th District Court Tuesday on one count of Discharge of a Firearm in or at a Building, one count of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and two counts of Felony Firearm.

It's alleged, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, that Phelps fired gunshots across Sumpter Road in Van Buren Township, before barricading himself inside his home, early Monday morning.

At around 12:30 a.m., Van Buren Township police officers responded to the 770 block of Sumpter Road on reports of a homeowner randomly firing shots from his house.

Officers heard gunfire coming from inside the suspect's home, set up a perimeter around house, and notified the Western Wayne County Special Operations Team.

According to officers, the man was agitated and did not want to speak to police.

After a standoff lasting around four hours, officers entered the home and took Phelps into custody.

Phelps was ordered held on a $20,000 cash bond as he awaits his next court appearance, a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for Nov. 2.

Authorities have not said why it's believed Phelps fired the shots, or at what, or whom, he may have been shooting.

No injuries were reported.
