(WWJ) Wayne County has announced it will need to reschedule 1,400 vaccinations this coming week due to a depleted supply from the state.

The postponements affect those who were scheduled for their first dose on Tuesday, January 19, and Wednesday, January 20, according to a release from the County Health Department.

The Wayne County Public Health Department will notify those affected of their new appointment time at a later date.

Individuals scheduled to receive their second dose, or those who will be vaccinated at a local hospital, nursing home, or long-term-care facility are not affected.

Those who need to be rescheduled are healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers included under the Phase 1A group on the vaccination priority list.

"Wayne County must reschedule and relocate its vaccination site because it has depleted its supply of the Pfizer-made COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, the state abruptly stopped supplying the county with the Pfizer vaccine for first doses and is for now only supplying Wayne County Public Health Division with the Moderna vaccine for new first doses," the release read.

The rescheduled appointments will take place at the county's new vaccine site: Schoolcraft College's Vista Tech Center located at 18600 Haggerty Rd., Livonia.

"We ran out of Pfizer vaccine on Saturday afternoon," said Wayne County Chief Health Strategist Dr. Mouhanad Hammami said in the release. "We know this is frustrating and we apologize for the inconvenience. Our team is working hard to vaccinate as many residents as we can but the supply shortage from the state of Michigan remains a challenge.

Wayne County currently is vaccinating healthcare workers, EMS, and essential employees in Phases 1A and 1B.

Seniors 65 and older are urged to schedule the vaccine through their health system. K-12 teachers will receive their inoculations through their school districts in partnership with Wayne RESA.

Michigan's COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard reports about 831,150 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with just over 405,990 administered into arms.

The state most recently received 1,950 doses from Pfizer on January 11 and about 97,500 doses two days earlier.

State data shows a total of about 220,000 dozes of the Pfizer vaccine and 22,00 doses of Moderna have been distributed to the Metro Detroit area (Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, St. Clair, Livingston and Washtenaw counties).
