WAYNE (WWJ) — John Dignan, the Wayne-Westland Community Schools Superintendent, has been placed on administrative leave.
The move was announced after the Wayne-Westland Community Schools Board of Education held a closed-door meeting on June 4.
This comes after the school district saw a nearly $30 million budget deficit due to staff raises and a clerical error, according to reports from Hometown Life.
School board President Bradley Gray said Jennifer Curry, assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and assessment, will serve as acting superintendent in the interim.
Dignan will remain on leave “pending the outcome of further discussions,” Gray said in a statement posted to the district’s website.
"The district’s leadership team will continue to work with the faculty and staff to ensure the positive completion of the school year for all our students, while remaining focused on the strategic priorities of our school district," Gray’s statement said.
The Board of Education will hold a special meeting Monday at 5 p.m. at John Glenn High School in Westland. A portion of the meeting will adjourn to a closed session.
