WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) -- An Oakland County lottery club is $2 million richer.

The FDL lottery club, from West Bloomfield, discovered the win while checking tickets they bought when the Powerball jackpot was over $1 billion, according to the club’s representative and spokesperson, Sheldon Larky. The club double checked the ticket by scanning it on the Michigan Lottery app.

“The club members said winning a $2 million prize is comforting and unbelievable,” said Larky.

According to the Michigan Lottery, the club matched all five white balls in the Sept. 3 drawing, winning $1 million. The prize was multiplied to $2 million because they had Power Play.

The Power Play option allows non-jackpot prizes to be multiplied by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million. Double Pay can also be added to a Powerball ticket, which gives players a second chance to win up to $10 million during the nightly Double Play drawing.

“Congratulations to the FDL lottery club that won a $2 million prize during the huge Powerball jackpot run last month,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said. “Jackpot runs are not only fun and exciting for players, but they also drive sales which helps the Lottery increase its contribution to the School Aid Fund.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Sunkiss Market, located on Puritan Street in Detroit.

According to the Michigan Lottery, around 97 cents of every dollar spent on tickets return to Michigan through contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to vendors and retailers.

The Lottery provided more than $1.2 billion to Michigan’s public schools during the 2024 fiscal year. It was the sixth contribution that was more than $1 billion. Lottery officials said more than $29 billion has gone into public schools in the state since 1972.
