DORR TWP., Mich. (WWJ) – A suspect is in custody after injuring an Allegan County Sheriff's deputy during an arrest Monday night.
The deputy, whose name and age have not been released, suffered head injuries while trying to arrest a suspect in Dorr Township, about 20 miles south of Grand Rapids, according to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office.
The deputy had been called to a neighborhood in Dorr around 10 p.m. after getting reports of a car speeding back and forth without headlights on, according to the sheriff's office.
When the deputy found the suspect and tried to arrest them, they fought back. Sheriff Frank Baker said the deputy was injured and "incapacitated."
A Michigan State Police trooper who was helping the deputy eventually subdued and arrested the suspect, who is a 35-year-old from Dorr.
The MSP trooper then began rendering first aid to the deputy, who sustained a head wound and was ultimately hospitalized. It was not exactly clear how the suspect injured the deputy, whose condition was not disclosed Tuesday.
Officials have not released the suspect's identity, pending formal charges. It was not immediately clear what charges the suspect will face, but they will be felonies, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
MSP has taken over the investigation.
