BERRIEN SPRINGS, MICH. (WWJ) -- A road worker in West Michigan has been killed on the job in what police are calling a drunk driving crash.

According to officials, the Berrien County Road Commission worker was cutting up a tree that had fallen across the road at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, just south of Berrien Springs.

MLive reports that's when a 36-year-old driver, traveling southbound on Red Bud Trail near Glendora Road, struck the tree -- and then the worker.

When police and rescuers arrived at the scene, they found the road commission worker dead.

The Buchanan man was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death. He has minor injuries.

The road worker's identity has not been released.
