WESTLAND (WWJ) — A Westland man is being held on $1 million bond in connection with a deadly stabbing last weekend.
Richard Waltiere Jr. of Westland was arraigned Wednesday on one count of second-degree murder. The 48-year-old man is accused of stabbing 58-year-old Donald Soulliere to death.
Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, Westland police officers were called to the area of Grand Traverse and Missaukee Court after getting reports of a man down.
When officers arrived they found Soulliere lying on the ground with stab wounds, unconscious but breathing, officials said.
Officers began life-saving measures until Westland Fire Department personnel arrived and took Soulliere to Beaumont Annapolis Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police officials said investigators quickly identified Waltiere as the suspect. They were able to find and arrest him around 4 a.m. Monday.
Authorities did not release any further information about the alleged stabbing, including a possible motive or whether Waltiere and Soulliere knew each other.
Waltiere's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 29.
