WESTLAND (WWJ) – Westland Police say foul play is not suspected in the case of two people found dead in a home, Thursday afternoon.
Westland police officials told WWJ's Ingrid Kelley they responded for a welfare check a home on Venoy Road at around 2 p.m. after neighbors called 911.
Neighbors reportedly called police after smelling an odor near the home, and having their calls to the people inside go straight to voicemail.
"Upon arrival officers determined there was sufficient cause to believe that the residents could be in distress and made entry into the location in the interest of the occupants' welfare," police said, in a news release.
Following further investigation, police said it is believed that the 57-year-old Westland woman and 55-year-old Detroit man died of a drug overdose.
They had not been seen for two days when police discovered their bodies. Their names were not released, pending notification to their families.
Police said the investigation in ongoing.
