ANN ARBOR (WWJ) – City officials in Ann Arbor are still investigating what caused a mysterious bump in a roadway last week that required emergency repairs.
The mystery happened along Glen Avenue near the construction site of a hotel near downtown and the University of Michigan medical campus, according to a report from MLive.
Somehow the road heaved upward an estimated 18-24 inches on Thursday. Whatever was the source of the mysterious bump caused the road to crack.
The city completed emergency repairs and the road was back open the next day, according to the report.
Some suspected causes of the bump include a water main break or damage from the nearby hotel construction and underground parking garage.
Hotel construction workers told MLive they believe the damage may have been caused by the construction, but city spokesman Robert Kellar said they are aware of a nearby water main break.
Kellar said the cause is still under investigation.
The city isn’t commenting on whether the developer could be asked to reimburse the city for road repairs if the cause was determined to stem from the construction.
