DETROIT (WWJ) - The fans want to know — what is in the box marked "top secret" that Rory the Lion was seen holding on the Detroit Lions' social media page the other day?

The big reveal will come Thursday, officials said, but speculation is already swirling over what could be inside, WWJ sports reporter Chris Fillar said.

"It's probably no surprise that the box is helmet-sized," Fillar stated.

Back in March, the franchise announced plans to unveil a new alternate helmet, followed by major uniform overhaul over the next two seasons.

Team president Rod Wood said he was collaborating with the Lions' chief communications and brand officer, Brian Facchini, to create a design that everyone will like.

"There will not be new uniforms in 2023," Wood told the Detroit Free Press. "I know people get over their skis on that. It takes really two years to really get it going, so Brian and a team have been kind of working with Nike, looking at uniforms that will probably be for 2024. It could be an interesting overhaul of the uniforms."

While there are no new uniforms for the upcoming season, but Wood did confirm that the Lions will be introducing a new helmet design, which has gone largely unchanged for decades.

So, is that what is in the box?

"Wood promised they'd be shown this spring and they could be white, black blue matted shiny," Fillar said. "Who knows?"

While other teams around the NFL unveiled over two dozen new alternate helmets in July last year, which were mainly white in color, Fillar said, but the Lions could choose to reveal Thursday which many on social media are already guessing.

"I need to see these helmets," one commenter said.

"Please don't be ugly," another poster wrote.

"I hope it’s white with a blue lions and silver stripe. Would go hard with the white jerseys," another posted.

Others said they hoped the Lions would announce a game in Germany against the Chiefs while another poster asked if Barry Sanders' statue was done yet.

Either way, the Lions said they will make the big reveal on Thursday, April 20.
