TROY (WWJ) – For decades, the Kmart headquarters in Troy was the place to be if you were trying to make it big in American retail. Business people would bring everything from clothes and toys to beds and appliances, excited to make their sales pitch to the dominant retail company in the U.S.

But as the Kmart brand declined over the years and faded into our memories, the nearly 1-million-square-foot headquarters building on Big Beaver Road has sat vacant for nearly two decades.
