SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Be prepared for slick conditions on Metro Detroit-area roads and freeways during the day on Monday, as wintry weather moves back in.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Feb. 27, for Oakland, Macomb and Shiawassee and Livingston counties.
AccuWeather forecasters say the precipitation is expected to begin as a period of snow and/or freezing rain.
"We're gonna have some messiness here for the afternoon." said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore. "I think right around mid-day we're gonna see this wintry mix of sleet, rain and some snow arriving. For areas south of M-59, I think (we'll see) a pretty decently quick change over to all rain...may hold onto the iciness longer north of M-59."
Oakland, Macomb and Livingston counties could see about an inch of snow accumulation, and a little freezing rain. Areas to the north — including Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair and Sanilac counties — could see a little bit more.
During the 9 a.m. hour, there was a line of snow moving over Jackson and the Lansing area.
DeVore said temperatures in Metro Detroit will rise into the mid-to-upper 30s through the afternoon — and that's when we'll see the switch to rain, which will continue into the evening.
"I think there's going to be some flooding on poor drainage areas, ponding on roadways for the afternoon/evening commute," he said.
DeVore said Tuesday is looking milder, with a breeze, clouds and maybe a little sunshine. The high will be around 48 degrees. Wednesday will be even milder, with a high of around 56 with some sun in the afternoon.
There's some bad news, however, for later in the week. DeVore said Metro Detroit is looking at another winter storm that could bring accumulating snow Thursday night into Friday.
